Mikko is 43 years old and comes from a gliding family. Childhood summers were spent at the airfields when his father was flying competitions and he started gliding as soon as he could, at the age of 15 ! It wasn’t until his 30’s when he got bit by the racing bug and started flying in competitions, and hasn’t looked back since. Mikko love the challenging elements of competition flying and training to become a better and faster pilot, but he also thinks it’s great that you actually spend the day racing against good friends and then share thoughts of the day with them.

 

In this sport you never stop learning! For the past three years he has finished in the top 3 in Finnish Nationals and he has been part of Finnish National team for several years.

 

Condor competitions are fun spare time activities during the long and dark Finnish winter months and mountain tasks are a nice change to flatland pilot. Mikko also use Condor to train and improve his skills for the next summer.

 

The soaring simulator is also a great tool to learn new gliding areas. Before going to Rieti (Italy), he used Condor to get familiar with the mountains, route options... and he must admit that it had a major impact on how well he knew the area when he started flying there. Now with VR, Condor is even more realistic !
